A Season of Thanks Giving - Sermon

Listen Later

A sermon by Katelyn Robbins.

Hebrew Scripture                                                            Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,

a very present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,

though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam,

though the mountains tremble with its tumult.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

the holy habitation of the Most High.

God is in the midst of the city, it shall not be moved;

God will help it when the morning dawns.

The nations are in an uproar; the kingdoms totter;

God utters God’s voice; the earth melts.

The Lord of hosts is with us;

the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Come, behold the works of the Lord;

see what desolations God has brought on the earth.

God makes wars cease to the end of the earth;

God breaks the bow and shatters the spear;

God burns the shields with fire.

“Be still, and know that I am God!

I am exalted among the nations; I am exalted in the earth.”

The Lord of hosts is with us;

the God of Jacob is our refuge.

Epistle                                                                          Colossians 1: 11-20, adapted

May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from Christ’s glorious power, so that you may have all endurance and patience, joyfully giving thanks to God, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light. God has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of God’s beloved Child, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Christ is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation, for in Christ all things in heaven and on earth were created, things visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers—all things have been created through and for Christ. Christ is before all things, and in Christ all things hold together. Christ is the head of the body, the church, and is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that Christ might come to have first place in everything. For in Christ all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Christ, God was pleased to reconcile to Godself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, by making peace through the blood of the cross.
