In this episode, Alex talks to Finn Mackay. Finn is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of the West of England, and they are the author of a new book from Bloomsbury; "Female Masculinities and the Gender Wars". Finn has a background in feminist activism, having founded the London Feminist Network and the revived London Reclaim the Night in 2004.
We discuss Finn's dream feminist dinner party, starting with a guest list of writers and activists; American feminist writers bell hooks and Kate Millett, and gender theorist Kate Bornstein. Set in an huge imagined home, against a soundtrack of La Roux, Gloria Gaynor and Candi Staton, they start with Pizza Express dough balls and tomato and mozzarella salad, followed by a vegetable lasagne and garlic bread, finishing with raspberry pavlova. We discuss Finn's radical feminism, their relationship with gender politics, their feminist parenting, and advice for younger feminists in 2023.
