Welcome to Episode 14 of A Seat At The Table with Spare Ribs Club!

In this podcast series, creator of Spare Ribs Club Alex Holker talks to guests about their dream feminist dinner party. From their 3 feminist guests, the 3 tunes that will be on repeat all evening, and the 3 courses being served, this podcast brings together conversations around feminism, female friendship and food.

In this episode, Alex talks to Sophie Mackintosh. Sophie is a writer from Wales, currently based in London. She is the author of three novels; The Water Cure, Blue Ticket, and Cursed Bread. The Water Cure was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize and Cursed Bread was longlisted for the Women's Prize.

We discuss Sophie's dream feminist dinner party, starting with a great guest list of literary heavyweights; French writer Annie Ernaux, novelist Mary Gaitskill, and screenwriter and actress Michaela Coel. Set in Sophie's kitchen at home against a soundtrack of Charlotte Adigéry, Weyes Blood and Kylie Minogue, they start with Aperol Spritz slushies and burrata with peaches and basil, followed by seafood pasta served in a paper bag à la Ciao Bella, finishing with Chez Panisse almond tart with clotted cream and limoncello. We discuss Sophie's novels, her career as a novelist, and how feminism inspires her work.
