Af: Kaapse son lag oor Tafelberg.
En: Cape Town's sun lies over Table Mountain.

Af: Dit is 'n pragtige dag in Kaapstad.
En: It is a beautiful day in Cape Town.

Af: Johan stap na die plaaslike mark.
En: Johan walks to the local market.

Af: Hy het 'n mandjie by hom.
En: He has a basket with him.

Af: Johan hou van die mark.
En: Johan likes the market.

Af: Dit is vol mense en kleurvolle stalletjies.
En: It is full of people and colorful stalls.

Af: Die reuk van vars groente is in die lug.
En: The smell of fresh vegetables is in the air.

Af: Hy sien tamaties, wortels en aartappels.
En: He sees tomatoes, carrots, and potatoes.

Af: Alles is so vars.
En: Everything is so fresh.

Af: By die eerste stalletjie groet Johan die vrou agter die tafel.
En: At the first stall, Johan greets the woman behind the table.

Af: "Môre, Tannie," sê hy.
En: "Morning, Auntie," he says.

En: I’m looking for tomatoes," he says.

Af: "Ek het net die beste vir jou," sê sy en gee vir hom 'n paar rooi tamaties.
En: "I have only the best for you," she says and gives him a few red tomatoes.

Af: Johan sit dit in sy mandjie en stap na die volgende stalletjie.
En: Johan puts them in his basket and walks to the next stall.

Af: Hy sien 'n man met 'n hoed wat appels verkoop.
En: He sees a man with a hat selling apples.

Af: Die man lyk vriendelik.
En: The man looks friendly.

Af: Johan stap nader.
En: Johan approaches.

Af: "Goeie môre," sê Johan.
En: "Good morning," Johan says.

Af: "Goeie môre, jonkman," antwoord die man.
En: "Good morning, young man," the man replies.

Af: "Wil jy 'n appel proe?
En: "Would you like to taste an apple?"

Af: ""Asseblief," sê Johan en neem die appel.
En: "Please," Johan says and takes the apple.

Af: Dit is soet en sappig.
En: It is sweet and juicy.

Af: Johan koop 'n paar appels en bedank die man.
En: Johan buys a few apples and thanks the man.

Af: By die derde stalletjie sien Johan wortels.
En: At the third stall, Johan sees carrots.

Af: Hy hou van wortels.
En: He likes carrots.

Af: Hy koop 'n klomp wortels en sit dit in sy mandjie.
En: He buys a bunch of carrots and puts them in his basket.

Af: Skielik hoor Johan 'n geluid agter hom.
En: Suddenly, Johan hears a noise behind him.

Af: Hy draai om en sien 'n klein hondjie wat speel.
En: He turns around and sees a little puppy playing.
