There are those who believe that our nation’s existence as a republic is drawing to a close. There are also those who believe that happened as much as two hundred and thirty-two years ago. Whether we are already there or we are still headed there, it is truly that easy to determine what will be in the days to come? The weird part is that so many people believe that the average lifespan of any form of liberal democracy is a mere two-hundred years. There is a reason that people have accepted this, and like the lifespan of a democracy, the slow realization of its false premise leaves us wondering where exactly we are actually headed. The question that haunts us though, is whether or not we ever truly even had a democracy. Or was it all just a splendid chimera?
