“We are not makers of history. We are made by history.” ~Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Welcome to our premier episode of "Speak Out: Arts, Activism, & More!". In honor of MLK Day, we feature Ms. Annie Kate Benton Jackson, one of the first students to help integrate the Newton County School System in Georgia. Experience history from the stories of someone who lived through it. In this emotional interview, she shares with us the trauma she suffered not only from whites students but black students who antagonized her for attending Newton High School.

Ms. Jackson also shares with us her memories of attending Dr. Martin Luther King's funeral and what inspired her to go on to become an educator, working with children from ALL backgrounds to promote change.
