In this chapter, Jesus’ Authority and resistance to His authority take center stage in the seemingly human conflicts that will take place between Him and the leaders of the people.  However, it needs to be pointed out that the intellectual, moral, and authoritative conflict is not to be looked at exclusively as being between Christ and individuals or groups; rather, the true battles that we will see are continuations of the spiritual warfare seen in the previous chapter, for the focus is not on individuals, but rather the spirits motivating individual or group decisions.
