I don’t usually title my sermons, but today I made an exception - I’ve called this one “A Tale of Two Daughters.”
In the New Testament there are at least two outstanding, standard stories of restoration: Jesus’ reinstatement of Peter as one of the twelve disciples, and the parable of the Prodigal Son (I'll sketch them both briefly in the sermon). In today’s Gospel lesson (you can read it at Mark 5:21-43) we’ll witness two more outstanding stories of restoration - both centered around women!
This summer most of the Gospel lessons are in the Gospel according to Saint Mark. These readings talk about Jesus’ teachings, His miracles, and His action-packed ministry. But each of the readings also has a “takeaway” from Jesus Himself! We’ll focus on these “red-letter” verses this summer. Here’s the this week’s: “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”(Mark 5:36)
