On episode 20, Julie & Art visit the Churchill War Rooms in London England.
Churchill War Rooms
What does a visit to the Churchill War Rooms offer? Plenty. This place, beneath the streets of Westminster, served as the underground nerve center where Winston Churchill and his inner circle directed the war efforts during World War II. It is here, where the Chiefs of Staff for the Army, Royal Navy, and Royal Air Force would convene to plan war strategy. Not only can you see the actual war rooms in their preserved state, but the attraction also boasts a museum to the memory of Winston Churchill.
Let us take you through a few highlights to stoke your interest for a future visit. We'll take you through the underground war planning area. Our visit covers much of you will see. Listen to hear about the cabinet meeting rooms, map room, and communications center.
Next, we learn more about the man, Winston Churchill, as we step into the museum. Here, we learn about the life of this great leader, from childhood, through his time as Prime Minister, and through his later years. Listen to our fun facts on Winston Churchill and you may be surprised by a thing or two that we learned.
We were thoroughly impressed with our visit to the Churchill War Rooms. So much so, that we highly recommend this as a spot to visit if you find yourself in London. We also share a few thoughts on a few things we wish were given more attention at this site. Listen to the podcast to hear our thoughts.
Travel Resources
We consulted “DK Eyewitness Travel Guide Great Britain” for identifying specific attractions to include during our trip. The book was helpful to identify walking tours, museums, as well as providing days and times that specific places are open to visit. We recommend purchasing a book similar to this one when planning a longer trip.
We hope this episode inspire you to consider this historical attraction as part of your UK travels. Our top tips (listen to the podcast) are shared to help you make the most of your visit.
