Hospital workplace violence has been a growing concern for years and has only been exacerbated by the pandemic. From 2019 to 2020, the assault rate at U.S. hospitals increased by 25%.
Campus Safety had the opportunity to speak to Dr. Rhonda Collins, DNP, RN, FAAN, about hospital violence, particularly violence against nurses. Dr. Collins shared her own personal experiences with workplace violence in her nursing career, what she believes has contributed to the increase in incidents, and effective ways hospitals can address this problem head-on.
