"But it was a passenger train. And as it went by, everyone turned to look, and on the back of the train, there was a platform, and standing there was Dwight Eisenhower waving to us. I thought it was remarkable that this man in his seventies made the effort to walk to the back of the train just to wave at this small crowd of onlookers. It was a simple gesture, but it left a lasting impression on me."
