We are in uncharted waters here, and the stress is HIGH! The goal of this episode is to spread some positivity during this pandemic but also to keep it real. It is an extra-long episode, so you may need to listen in chunks. But make sure you follow through to the end where Kim and Laurie give some much needed perspective. Anxiety, food, relationships, devices, exercise, and things to entertain us are all discussed. Even when social distancing, we are all in this together!
Intro
[01:30] Managing stress and anxiety. (“CALM”)
Celebrate God’s goodness
Ask God for help
Leave your concerns with him
Meditate on good things
[15:45] Food: Healthy foods to stock up on while in quarantine mode. Some good non-meat protein sources since some stores have been selling out. Sugar is more addictive than cocaine and every time you consume excess sugar, your white blood cells’ ability to ward off this virus is lowered for several hours.
[28:50] Reference back to episode #4 Jan 22, 2019 Boosting Immunity.
[29:55] Relationships: The impact of this quarantine so far in Laurie and Kim’s households and ways you can stay connected yet carve out some alone time.
[42:50] Devices: The beauty of technology and what that has meant for the children, schools and businesses. Also great to stay in touch with family and friends.
[52:00] Exercise: Importance of movement for immunity. Lots of streaming options! Also GET OUTSIDE!
[58:00] TV: Recommendations for series to watch and some fun programs, too.
[1:06:10] Good reads: Book recommendations (self-help, fiction, spiritual) — Some offer really important insight right now on loss and joy. (scribd.com is offering a 30-day free trial to download/read any book… no strings attached.)
[01:18:30] Podcasts: Some listening recommendations for other shows
[01:20:35] Ending on a positive note: Laurie’s thoughts on some good things that will come out of this time.
[01:23:35] Some spiritual guidance from Kim.

This is the first of several episodes in which Kim and Laurie revisit expert guest interviews. Today, conversations with Jessica Procini and Melainie Rogers around emotional eating and eating disorders are recapped. We share our personal and professional perspectives as well as important takeaways. Every human can relate to issues with eating in some form.
Intro
[03:00] The roots run deep with emotional/disordered eating. Laurie shares some personal stories.
[09:00] Kim’s poll results from our audience.
[14:00] Recap of emotional eating episode. Stuffing down feelings with food. Digesting and moving through emotions. We seek comfort, a serotonin boost, and convenience, but then the guilt and deep-rooted issues surface. The blood sugar spike and crash cycle starts and is hard to pull yourself out of. Kim shares her jelly bean habit while studying in college. SUGAR!
[24:30] Eating disorder episode reviewed. Eating disorders vs. disordered eating. How and why eating disorders occur: Links to anxiety, control issues, and obsessive behaviors. Once body weight drops below a certain level, part of the brain shuts down and it’s hard to reason and pull yourself out of it. First step before trying to make changes in habits is to get back up to a healthy body weight. Sometimes it takes a loved one forcing you into recovery to start to heal.
[32:00] The role of social media and its impact on our teenagers. Why the new “body acceptance movement” may be beneficial.
[39:00] Mental health is of upmost importance! Don’t stress or create fear around food.
[41:00] A word about our show partners, Perfect Supplements and Amazon. (Discount code/ links below)
[43:20] Kids’ relationships with food. Restriction and fear around food. It’s best to look at what makes you strong and grow vs. certain foods being “bad.” Kids are very good with intuitive eating, and we as adults could actually learn from this and follow their lead.
[48:10] Our hormones need nutrients and healthy fat in order to function properly.
[50:00] The key to everything is intentional eating and listening to our bodies. “Primary food” is NOT the food on your plate … It is relationships. A very important relationship is the one with yourself. Self-love, self-image, and self-sabotage.

[19:00] Reconnecting with ourselves: Self-care can be challenging but is essential to serve others. Both Kim and Laurie discuss what this looks like for them and challenge you to stop and think about what you need and how that need can be fulfilled.
[42:45] Reconnecting with each other: Expert guests have shared so much great information on our show, and booking agents are sending guest requests constantly. We’ve learned a lot, but we miss the energy when we record together. We will be doing more of that moving forward!

She uses a functional medicine approach to help people identify imbalances in the body. She is also a Certified Building Biology Environmental Consultant and Electromagnetic Radiation Specialist with the International Institute of Building Biology and Ecology. She assesses buildings for anything that may be causing health problems, including Indoor Air Quality, mold, chemical off-gassing, ventilation, and EMF exposure. Originally from Kansas City, MO., she currently lives in Boise, ID.
She is available for consulting via Skype and phone, and will travel as needed for home assessments. Her website is www.wholehomeandbodyhealth.com
Intro
[02:00] Cathy Cooke bio and background.
[14:00] Why it is so important for us to get educated on EMF’s and how our environment can keep us from optimal health, even when we eat clean and exercise.
[18:05] Information on our show partners Perfect Supplements and Amazon.
[20:00] 4 fields – 1: Radio frequencies (wireless devices) Turn off wifi. 2: Magnetic (powerlines or wiring errors) Have wiring checked. 3: Electric (living on the grid) Turn off breaker. 4: Dirty electricity (things we plug in…so many outlets change the sign wave) Energy saving appliances and light bulbs create a ton of dirty electricity!
[33:50] Actionable steps to reduce exposure. Keep your cell phone off your body as much as possible, and put it in airplane mode when you can. Turn Bluetooth and Wi-Fi off. Inverse Square Law — The closer we are to the frequency, the exposure is exponentially increased. Turn Wi-Fi off at night or put the router in a cage that reduces frequency but doesn’t hinder the signal. Apple watches and Fitbit are putting radiation right on your body at all times (yet they are known as tools to promote health)!
[47:00] Going against the grain of our culture in order to reduce exposure and teaching our children good digital hygiene.

Catharine Arnston has a 30-year career as an international Attache for the Canadian & British governments, publisher of an international magazine and founder of 3 startups. But in 2009, when her younger sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and advised by her oncologist to change her diet to an alkaline one because it would help her heal, Catharine put her career on hold to help her sister. In the process, she discovered algae, the most alkaline, nutrient-dense plant in the world that no one seemed to know about. Catharine knew algae would be a game-changer for the world if she could just help Americans understand it. And ENERGYbits was born!

Now being 100% free from her compulsions with food, she helps others do the same through all her levels of support, such as her retreats, called The ESCAPE, her year-long transformational programs and through her various public, talks, events and workshops.
