About 2.2 Million people are in prison. Nearly 5 Million are in some form of corrective custody, like parole or probation. That 1 out of 51 adults, and 1 out of 36 adults, respectively. Combined they cost more than 181 BILLION dollars a year. Between 40 and 60% of prisoners belong in long-term mental health care rather than in a cage--due to mental illness, (or literal "criminal insanity"). Didn't our Lord say something about people in prison?
