Luke 22:31-62
In Luke 22 we have a story of two cups. Last week we saw how the Passover cup was a cup of blessing symbolizing how Jesus the Lamb of God was going to shed His blood for the forgiveness of sin. But in verses 31-62 we see that the Gethsemane cup is the cup of God’s wrath against sin which Jesus will drink at the cross in order that He can offer us the cup of blessing. Whether it’s the sin of denying Jesus [ Peter ], the sin of betraying Jesus [ Judas ], or any other sin we can imagine in-between, what we have before us is evidence that all people everywhere need the wrath consuming death of Jesus.
