  • "The Hardest Part Isn't the Tooth” "

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

In Episode 7 of Dental Lounge, Joseph takes on the part of the job dental school never taught us: the difficult patient. The episode is built around four real things patients say: "I saw a video on TikTok," "I want my teeth to look like hers," "My blood pressure's fine, just pull it," and "The last dentist ruined it." For each one, Joseph draws on his own experience in Egypt and the US, and shows why the right response starts with taking the patient seriously and building on what they said. In the case-study segment, he works through a patient who disappeared for two months after a root canal and came back angry and refusing to pay, and gives you the exact words to use in that moment.

  • The Team That Thinks "الفريق اللي بيفكر"

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

In Episode 6 of Dental Lounge, Joseph starts from a small moment: a minor problem in the clinic gets solved by his own hands instead of being handed to the team to learn from. From there, he opens up something much deeper: why so many operators in Egypt work at a practice for a while, then leave to open their own. The episode speaks honestly about four real reasons behind this, landing on one word that ties them all together: value. Not every answer here is neat, and that's intentional — some questions deserve more thought than a checklist.

  • The Equipment Gathering Dust "الجهاز اللي عليه تراب"

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

In Episode 5 of Dental Lounge, Joseph opens with a scene every dentist has lived or will live: equipment bought in a moment of excitement, now sitting under a layer of dust in the corner of the clinic, barely used. From there, he unpacks FOMO — the fear of missing out — and shows how to tell the difference between direct and strategic return on any piece of equipment, and how to calculate a real break-even point before signing any payment plan. The episode closes with a simple six-question decision map you can carry in your head into any convention or exhibition before making your next purchase.

  • Busy or Productive?

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

In This Episode of Dental Lounge, Joseph asks a simple but uncomfortable question: is your busy clinic actually performing well, or is it just busy? This episode isn't only about money — it's about a broader concept: performance, which includes your time, the quality of care you deliver, and your own personal effort. Drawing on his experience in the US (including a story about a day with eight patients in two hours versus a day with a single two-and-a-half-hour patient), Joseph walks through five simple indicators you can start tracking tomorrow — showing how you can achieve the same result, or better, with less effort.

  • Before They Meet You "قبل ما يشوفك"

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

In the third episode of Dental Lounge, Joseph takes a step back — before the chair, before the exam, before the patient even meets the dentist. Because a large part of a patient's decision is shaped by small moments: who answered the phone, how quickly, and how it felt. Joseph walks through a patient's journey before they ever sit in your chair — discovery, first contact, reception, waiting — and makes clear that technical skill remains non-negotiable, but it isn't always what separates one dentist from another in a patient's mind. A practical episode with steps you can apply in your clinic starting tomorrow.

  • The Other Skill "المهارة التانية"

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

In the second episode of Dental Lounge, Joseph unpacks an assumption most dentists never question: that great clinical work is enough on its own. He breaks down the difference between clinical skill and the skill of communicating a treatment plan — a separate, learnable skill, not a talent some people are born with. He also tackles the stigma dentists carry around the word "selling," and why patients who hesitate usually aren't rejecting the cost — they're missing the value. A foundational episode the rest of the season builds on.

  • America or Egypt

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

Dr. Joseph Shenouda opens the season with the question every dentist who's ever thought about leaving Egypt has asked themselves: is dentistry really better in the US? Drawing on his own journey — training in Egypt, completing the equivalency process, joining UCLA's Advanced Standing program, practicing in the US, then returning to Egypt for two and a half years before going back — he breaks down what actually differs between the two systems: workload and structure, insurance versus out-of-pocket care, patient relationships, overhead costs, and the real financial picture behind the numbers people see on social media. No easy answers — just an honest, firsthand comparison.
