b-Soul’s entire life has been shaped by music, in fact it was music that put food on the table throughout his youth with his family owning various record shops and record labels around America. As a young buy he dreamt of becoming a basketball star, then at the age of 10, he contracted a rare virus known as Stevens–Johnson syndrome which landed him in the hospital. This would have effects on him for the rest of his life, causing his skin pigmentation to change, most noticeable his lips and left him with weakened vision and light sensitivity. That’s likely why you will always see him rocking some form of shades.
