Abdominoplasty after weight loss surgery : risk factors for complications

This podcast discusses the complication rates and risk factors associated with post-bariatric abdominoplasty. The study, conducted at a high-volume post-bariatric centre in Belgium, retrospectively analysed data from 898 patients who underwent abdominoplasty procedures between 2011 and 2019. The authors found that the overall complication rate was 29.8%, with wound dehiscence and seroma formation being the most common complications. Importantly, they identified several risk factors for complications, including male gender, smoking, diabetes mellitus type 2, a higher BMI at the time of abdominoplasty, a larger amount of tissue resected, and a longer interval between bariatric surgery and abdominoplasty.
