Think back to a time in your life when you were living life according to your will and by your own resources. You had turned your back on God and tried it your own way, and then failed miserably. David, a man after God’s own heart, went down that path for 16 months before he finally turned back to God. But the Lord didn’t give up on Him, and was waiting patiently and faithfully for His wayward child to return. We get the details in First Samuel chapter 30.

God sure is good and gracious to us, and the passage before us today on Abounding Grace is a brilliant reminder of that. The Lord wants us to keep going and growing in our relationship with Him, but there are times when some Christians backslide for one reason or another. Maybe that’s descriptive of where you’re at today? As we visit First Samuel thirty today David is in a 16 month backslide, but after great difficulty he’s going to come back to the Lord! In one of the beautiful portraits of God’s grace in all of Scripture, we see the Lord is right there waiting for him.

In the world today if you have an upper class background, good education and a lot of money… you can go far! But you may be pleased to know, that’s not required to be used of God. We’ll learn today on Abounding Grace the Lord often uses common, ordinary people who have no formal education or money behind their name. And isn’t that refreshing and encouraging? That comes to light through a study in Acts chapter four.
