The thief on the cross has often been used as a weak argument by those who reject the importance of baptism. It's surprising to me because this argument is easily refuted. Upon closer examination, the thief argument falls apart. Even if you strongly disagree with the idea of baptism being essential for salvation, using the thief's example as evidence is not a good argument.
