Sarah dies. Abraham, a "foreigner and sojourner" in the land of Canaan, negotiates a contract with the Hittites to possess property to bury her. Sarah is buried in hope because Abraham's possession of property is in the Promised Land. God is beginning to fulfill his promise that he and his offspring will possess the Promised Land.
