When we apply God's holy word to our lives, our lives will be enriched. Christ reminds us that there are some hireling shepherds who are motivated by selfish ambition.

Jesus came to earth so that we could have an abundant life. For this reason, God established His church. As our Good Shepherd and the lamb, He laid down His life. So the sheep could have an abundant life.
