Accountability, what is it? Why do we need it? And how do we go about starting this journey?
Guest Rod Handley takes us through some practical steps on how to overcome addictions and struggles in our lives through keeping each other accountable. He is the founder and president of the “Character that Counts” Ministry, a 20 year old ministry that God has blessed to reach across the country, co-founder of TGIW (Teaching Guys Infinite Wisdom), he is an author and publisher, ordained minister and banquet speaker, CEO, CFO, VP, of FCA, has a CPA license degree, Academic All American Football player at Washington University, a husband and father of four.
When it comes to accountability, Handley defines it as; being honest with God, with others and with yourself. We ultimately need accountability to live in true freedom, we are called to walk in the light, and that’s the only way to live! Bringing the secret sins in your life out in the open takes a tremendous weight off of yourself, and you begin to feel fearless instead of desperately keeping your sin hidden, terrified of what would happen if your cover was blown.
“The heart of deceitful above all things.” Jeremiah 17:9
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you will be healed.” James 5:16
Practical tips for beginning the journey to freedom are to Pray, ask God to bring a trusted accountability partner into your life. Risk, make the first move and ask this person if they would want to take the plunge with you. Start your covenant relationship, be intentional about meeting on a regular basis. Ask the tough questions.
