Seriously clever writing!
Don't take this too seriously. If you do, youâll miss the point: the plot will be mystifying, and the characters will seem bizarre. Instead, look for the subtle humor, the delicate sense of mischief that threads it's way through the narrative. Let that guide you.
For this is a joke - a deliciously clever, finely crafted parody of its own genre. It takes the classic (and perhaps slightly cliched?) elements and gives them a finely calculated tweak. Just enough to make the characters slightly quirky, the plot a little overdone, the dialogue (especially that carried out by the means of lengthy handwritten notes!) almost but not quite bordering on the ridiculous. All put together with a smooth flow of words that moves the story along without any awkward phrases or clumsy sentences to distract. It is a pleasure to read - whether you're enjoying the story, smiling at the humor, or just admiring the craftsmanship with which it has been written. Just don't take it seriously!
