ActionSA president Herman Mashaba on Monday called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to “demonstrate real leadership” by cancelling former President Jacob Zuma’s presidential perks and benefits.
This follows the statement released by the Jacob Zuma Foundation stating that Zuma will not comply with the State capture commission of inquiry and will not appear before the commission as requested.
This is in defiance of a Constitutional Court order.
“President Ramaphosa should instruct his parliamentary caucus to initiate an application to rescind all benefits that Zuma and his family continue to enjoy at the taxpayers’ expense. Zuma cannot enjoy the provision of flights, vehicles, state pension, VIP protection and many others, while spitting on the Constitution by his actions,” Mashaba said.
He also called on Ramaphosa to issue a warrant of arrest for Zuma and hold him to account as a demonstration of being in charge of the country and the ruling African National Congress.
Mashaba warned that if Zuma was allowed to exist above the law it would be an indication that little was being done to restore the rule of law in the country.
ActionSA reiterated the need for Zuma to surrender his passport, suggesting that the former President plans to flee to Russia to avoid any legal prosecution.
