Throughout scripture we see countless encounters between mankind and the spirit realm. In fact, the bible is a historical record of God regularly revealing Himself and His love to people in tangible, and mystical ways. Jesus’ conception was a manifestation of God’s connection with mankind. In the context of God speaking and connecting with us in this dimension let’s read this passage as the author Luke describes it.
The angel answered, ‘The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called, the Son of God.”
Luke 1:35
It was the overshadowing of God’s presence on Mary that allowed her to conceive our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God was communicating with her in a mystical sensing capacity. I realize this is still a beautiful mystery--the virgin birth--but let’s not lose sight of the fact that she received a divine touch from the Lord Himself through her physical senses.
How many scriptures have we read that speak of us physically experiencing spiritual realities and yet we have ascribed them to metaphors only? What if there are actually dimensions of experiencing and sensing the spiritual realm that we are discounting as metaphors only?
