In Acts 1, after Jesus' death and resurrection, He appeared to the disciples for 40 days before He ascended to heaven. During this time, He further instructed and spent time with the disciples. Jesus promised the disciples they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them. He gave them instructions to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. After Jesus ascended to heaven, the disciples returned to Jerusalem united in prayer. Prayer is vital. Jesus said the world will knows us by our love and unity and prayer unites us. We need to pray. We need to be serious about praying. We need to gather together to pray. The first Christ followers literally gathered daily to pray and worship the Lord - together. We are called to live out the Word of God and if we are living out the Word it means we are gathering in worship and we are gathering in prayer.
