Reaching Your World with Luis Palau

Acts of Service

Listen Later

I have heard women comment that they would rather have their husbands offer to do the vacuuming than bring them flowers.  For many wives, the things their husbands do for them gives them a loud and clear signal that they are loved.
In First Peter 4:10 we read, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”  God has given us spiritual gifts and material blessings.  He wants us to use those in serving others.
We can apply this principal in loving our neighbors.  Perhaps you can mow the grass for an elderly couple you know.  Or what about giving young parents a night out by inviting their kids for a sleepover?  It could be just a simple thing like taking in the mail for a disabled person. If someone in your world is ill you can take them some homemade soup and spend time encouraging them and praying with them.  When we are alert and watching for opportunities to lighten someone’s burden, we can find many ways to be of service to them.  The Bible says, in 1 John 3:18, “…let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” Let’s do just that as we obey Jesus’ command, and find ways to show we do love our neighbors.
