In this episode we talk about where we are in our recovery journey, how our past lives still linger in our lives and how to continue down the path of sobriety and living in recovery. Drugs and alcohol used to consume us but now we live every day with a purpose and that is to show up as our true authentic selves and show, through our actions, everyone that we are the real deal in our recovery. We talk about how we continue to show up and grow and in time how that is going to help to mend broken relationships and mistrust that was formed in our addiction.
Buckle up, this episode we talk all about fears on marriage and failure in relationships, being afraid to open up and share experiences in life, the "haters" mindset, raising children and fear of failure in and after addiction and recovery. We talk about it ALL in this episode!! We hope you can relate and leave us your comments and viewpoints!!
Today we talk about actions that we took while we were in addiction, how we feel about those actions now and how to let go and move forward without bringing those feelings along with us.
I’ll be the first to admit, mistakes were made… okay?! Not just one mistake but MANY and now I must live with those things!!
For any person, it’s hard to admit when you’ve really messed up! Imagine recklessly betraying your best friend, your spouse, or the trust of your children. In my opinion there is no worse feeling than knowing what you did and living with that choice.
Now that we are sober we are having to acknowledge the pain we’ve caused ourselves and others, the time we’ve lost, the mountain of guilt we’ve piled onto ourselves.
Let's get into it!
Stigma refers to the discrimination against a particular group of people, identifiable by a common nation, place, condition, or other attribute. Some people have a stigma against those with a substance use disorder because of inaccurate and outdated beliefs about addiction that led harmful stereotypes, assumptions, and negative attitudes. The stigma of addiction can result in harmful and dangerous consequences. It can be a huge deterrent for people struggling with Substance use disorders who may want to get help to stop using but since there’s this negative aura that surrounds addiction, research has found that 90% of people do not receive or seek the help that they need and are half as likely to get it to avoid being stigmatized.
Brian and Michelle struggled in addiction for 20 years. After a 6 year separation, they both worked on their sobriety, were in and out of treatment centers and finally gained their sobriety on their own. As fate would have it they both were reintroduced into each others lives as new and healed people and were able to ultimately be the mother and father to their two amazing kids that they always wanted to be. Yet another success story about the struggle of addiction and the journey of recovery.
