The emptiness
sits on both sides
one his, one hers
since love has died
with a wall between
where they reside
two lonely beds
where love’s denied
no longer by each
other’s sides
they each share much
more lonely nights
so much different
than their honeymoon
and those years when
passion made them swoon
all buried now in
separate tombs
as they slumber
in adjoining rooms
with a door between
that’s seldom used
in a marriage that
has been refused
and though he still
loves her so much
she’s turned away
from being touched
divorce formed out
of two by fours
and some sheetrock
he’s learned to abhor
and though he could
leave if he chose to
two precious children
are the glue
that holds together
what remains
a loveless life with
all it’s pains.
as he lies awake
and racks his brain
as to why she’s
chosen to abstain
from all they knew
when love was new
even though he’s
tried all he can do
and so he will
remain alone
at least until the
kids are grown
and then he’ll flee
that bitter home
find someone else
to call his own
later when the kids
will understand
that love doesn’t
always go as planned
As they spend weekends
On visitations
After she has made
some renovations
to remove that wall
that reminds her of
her total denial of his love
but such sad stories
will still go on
all over the world
from dusk till dawn
bitter marriages
that just survive
for their children sake
as they both strive
to keep false
pretenses alive
While emptiness sits
On both sides
