When we take a passionate position on something and someone raises a point that challenges our position, if it is true, we need to acknowledge it. Not deflect. Not distract. Not pivot. Not deny. But admit it! We need to tell the truth even when it's inconvenient. We think that this will weaken our position but the exact opposite is actually true. When we don't admit the truth that is contrary to our position, we diminish ourselves, lessen our credibility, and reduce the possibility that we will effectively influence others. People will focus on our unwillingness to admit the truth which may reflect a double-standard on our part, for example, and end up not trusting us or our position.
