Our culture tells us to discover our identity by looking inward and being true to ourselves. The gospel tells a different story: our true identity is not something we create but something we receive in Jesus. When we follow Christ, our old life is put to death and a new life begins—one that is “hidden with Christ” and shaped by belonging to God’s family.
From this new identity flows a transformed way of living. The Christian life isn’t about rule-keeping or behavior modification to earn acceptance; it’s about living out who we already are in Christ. As God renews us day by day, we begin to reflect the character of Jesus—showing mercy, kindness, humility, patience, forgiveness, and love.
In the end, the message is simple: because we are chosen, loved, and adopted by God through Jesus, we learn to live like members of His family, continually being renewed and transformed into His likeness.
