Romans 8:14–17 NASB95 14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.
Sermon Notes:
1. ALL God’s children have the Holy Spirit and are led by Him to the sins of the flesh. (8:14)
Ephesians 1:13 NLT 13 And now you Gentiles have also heard the truth, the Good News that God saves you. And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago.
2. Being BORN does not make you a child of God. Being BORN AGAIN makes you an adopted child of God. (8:15)
3. As God’s children, believers have eternal life as their INHERITANCE along with SUFFERING in this life. (8:16-17)
The Big Idea: As a believer your standing with God is not based on PERFORMANCE, but on RELATIONSHIP. You have been adopted into God’s family and can live without FEAR because you will always be His CHILD.
Application: God wants a bigger FAMILY. Help GOD grow His FAMILY.
