The Lindsay Clancy trial has officially ended in a mistrial after a jury could not reach a unanimous decision, leaving one very uncomfortable question hanging in the air: what should happen now?
This week, we're talking about the case, the jury's deadlock, mental health, postpartum psychosis, and the very different opinions people have about what justice should look like. We talk about whether Lindsay Clancy's mental health was being taken seriously, the role her family and husband played in trying to help her, and why this case feels so different from how similar cases were viewed 20 or 30 years ago.
We also look back at the Susan Smith case and another heartbreaking case where a woman was hospitalized for mental illness, later released, had more children, and ultimately killed them too.
And because we're still us, we manage to find a little humor in a very heavy conversation, including KC's very straightforward opinion on where Lindsay Clancy should be right now. 😂
In the end, we're just thankful we're not the people sitting in that jury room trying to make a decision that could determine the rest of someone's life. At this point, it feels like the trial has become almost as much a public opinion trial as a legal one.
Lesson Learned: Sometimes the hardest part isn't knowing what you think. It's knowing what the right thing actually is.
And maybe our other lesson is... save your money for a really good lawyer. 😬
