Pilsen is the capital city of the Pilsen Region in the Czech Republic.

It is located in the historical region of Bohemia.

Pilsen is the fourth largest city in the Czech Republic by population, with a total population of 170,322 and population density of 1,237 per square kilometer.

Geographically, it is located to the west of Prague by ninety kilometers, or 56 miles. It is situated at the meeting point of the Radbuza River, the Mze River, the Uhlava River, and the Uslava River.

Together, these four rivers form the Berounka River.

The University of West Bohemia is located in Pilsen.

The University is known for its School of Law, School of Mechanical Engineering, and School of Applied Science.

Pilsen has been a booming site for foreign investment since the 1990s.

An Israeli mall developer built the Pilsen Plaza in 2007, which is a five-acre shopping mall that includes a movie theater complex.

Corporations like Daikin and Panasonic also have manufacturing bases in Pilsen.

The City of Pilsen is home to just under thirty percent of the population of Pilsen Region, yet it produces more than two thirds of the region's GDP.

This makes Pilsen one of the most affluent cities in all of the Czech Republic.

Pilsen has been chosen as a European Capital of Culture in 2015, which is a designation by the European Union.

During that year, many cultural events will take place.
