Hatay

Hatay ili, Türkiye’de Akdeniz kıyısında yer alır. Suriye sınırının içine doğru sokulmuştur. Tunç Devri’nin erken dönemlerinde şehrin kurulduğu yerde yerleşim olduğuna dair kanıtlar vardır. Akadlar, Amoriler ve Hititler gibi pek çok medeniyete ait bir yerleşim yeri olmuştur. Bolge ismini MO 1180 ile 700 yillari arasinda ortaya ciknis Neo-Hitit hukumdarlardan alir. Daha sonra, Seleukos imparatorluğunun egemenbligi altında Suriye tetrapolisi için konum olmustur. MO 64 yilindan sonra bolgenin en onemli idari ve kulturel mekezi olarak Roma imparatorlugunun egemenligi altinda gecirmistir. 2. Dünya Savaşı’ndan çok kısa bir süre önce Hatay Cumhuriyeti kurulmuş ancak Fransızlar ve Türkler’in ortak yönetiminde yaklaşık 1 yıl kadar varlığını sürdürmüştür. Hatay, resmi olarak 1939’daki referandum sonucu Türkiye’nin bir ili olmuştur.

Hatay ili, dünyada ikinci büyük Roma mozaiklerinin bulunduğu yerdir. Bu mozaikler, Antakya Müzesi’nde sergilenmektedir. Saint Pierre Kilisesi, ildeki diğer anlamlı yapıdır. Kilise, kayalıkların içine doğru oyularak inşaa edilmiş ve Hristiyan hacıların uğrak yeri olmuştur.

Toprakların üçte biri düzlük olmasına rağmen Hatay’ın iç kesimleri genellikle dağlıktır. Nur Dağları, en yüksek noktası Mığır Tepesi ile bölgede yer alır. Bölge ayrıca büyük miktarda açık billur kayaçların bulunduğu Arap Kalkanı içinde yer almıştır. Turistler ayrıca bölgede Asi Nehri’ni ziyaret edebilirler.

Hatay

Hatay Province is located along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea in Turkey.

It is nestled right up to the border of Syria.

There is evidence of settlements existing on the site of the city since the early part of the Bronze Age.

It has belonged to various groups throughout history, including the Akkadian Empire, the Amorites, and the Hittites.

The region derives its name, however, from it’s Neo-Hittite rulers, who flourished from around 1180 BC to 700 BC.

Later, it became the location for the Syrian tetrapolis of Antioch, Seleucia Pieria, Apamea, and Laodicea under the Seleucid empire.

After 64 BC, it spent the rest of antiquity under Roman rule, the city of Antioch serving as an important administrative and cultural center for the region.

Not long before World War II, the Republic of Hatay was briefly set up, but it only existed for about a year, with both the French and the Turks ruling over it.

Hatay officially became a province of Turkey in 1939 after a referendum.

Hatay Province is home to the second largest group of Roman mosaics in the world.

That exhibition is in the Antakya Museum.

St. Peter Church is another site of significance in the province.

The church has been carved out of rock, and it is a common destination for Christian pilgrimages.

The land inside of Hatay is mostly mountainous, although about a third of it is plains area.

The Nur Mountains march through the province, with the highest peak being Migirtepe.

The landscape is also marked by the Arabian-Nubian Shield, which is a large area of exposed crystalline rocks.

Visitors will also find the Orontes River running through the region.
