عمران خان سابقہ کرکٹ کے کھلاڑی ہیں جو بعد میں سیاستدان بنے۔

ایک کرکٹر کے طور پر وہ پاکستان میں اس کھیل کے کامیاب ترین کپتان تھے۔

1971 سے 1992 تک وہ قومی کرکٹ ٹیم میں کھیلتے رہے اور اسی دوران 1982 سے 1992 تک ٹیم کے کپتان رہے۔

ان کے کرکٹ کریئر کا عروج 1992 میں کرکٹ ورلڈ کپ کی کامیابی تھا، اور یہ وہ واحد سال تھا جب پاکستان نے کرکٹ ورلڈ کپ جیتا۔

خان دراصل 1988 میں 1987 کے ورلڈ کپ کے بعد ریٹائر ہوگئے تھے لیکن ان کے پرستاروں کی محبت کی وجہ سے اس وقت کے صدر ضیاء الحق نے ان سے درخواست کی کہ وہ واپس ٹیم میں لوٹ آئیں۔

خان دنیا کے ان آٹھ کرکٹ کے کھلاڑیوں میں سے ہیں جنہوں نے ٹیسٹ فارمیٹ کرکٹ میں آل راؤنڈرز ٹرائپل حاصل کیا۔

1996 میں انہوں نے سیاسی جماعت پاکستان تحریکِ انصاف قائم کی اور چیئرمین بن گئے۔

تین سال بعد انہوں نے جنرل پرویز مشرف کے فوجی قبضے کی حمایت کی کیوں کہ ان کا خیال تھا کہ جنرل حکومت میں کرپشن کا خاتمہ کریں گے۔

2002 میں وہ اپنے آبائی حلقے میانوالی سے رکنِ پارلیمنٹ کے طور پر منتخب ہوئے، اور 2007 تک وہ رکنِ پارلیمنٹ رہے۔

وہ 2013 میں متحرک عوامی رابطے سے دوبارہ منتخب ہوئے، جس میں ایک تقریر بھی شامل تھی جو لاہور کے ہزاروں حامیوں کے سامنے کی گئی جس میں انہوں نے کہا کہ وہ ریاست ہائے متحدہ کی قیادت میں دہشت گردی کے خلاف لڑی جانے والی جنگ میں پاکستان کی قیادت کریں گے اور خطے میں امن لائیں گے۔

2014 میں خان نے مبینہ الزام لگایا کہ 2013 کے عام انتخابات میں پاکستان مسلم لیگ کو جتوانے کے لیے دھاندلی کی گئی، اور لاہور سے اسلام آباد ایک مارچ کی قیادت کی، وزیرِ اعظم نواز شریف کے استعفے کے لیے دباؤ ڈالا اور مبینہ دھاندلی کی تحقیقات کا مطالبہ کیا۔

تحقیقات کے لیے ایک تین رکنی عدالتی کمیشن قائم کیا گیا۔

Imran Khan is a former cricket player who turned politician.

As a cricketer, he was the most successful captain of the sport in Pakistan.

He played on the nation's cricket team from 1971 until 1992 and was the team captain intermittently between 1982 and 1992.

His cricket career culminated in triumph at the Cricket World Cup in 1992, which was the only year Pakistan has won the Cricket World Cup.

Khan originally retired in 1988 following the end of the 1987 World Cup, but because of his fans' adoration, then-President Zia ul Haq entreated him to return to the team.

Khan is one of the only eight cricket players in the world to have attained an All-rounders' Triple in the Test format of cricket.

In 1996, he instituted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf political party and became the chairman.

Three years later, he supported the military coup started by General Pervez Musharraf because he thought the general would quash corruption in the government.

In 2002, he was elected as a parliamentarian in the National Assembly for his native constituency of Mianwali, and he remained a parliamentarian until 2007.

He was reelected in 2013 after an active public relations push which included a speech given to thousands of supporters in Lahore in which he said he would lead Pakistan in its emergence from the war on terror led by the United States and bring peace to the region.

Later the same year, he was held in contempt of court after being accused of criticizing the lower court during the General Election in May of that year.

In 2014, Khan alleged that the general elections in 2013 had been rigged to enable the Pakistan Muslim League to win and led a march from Lahore to Islamabad, pushing for the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and an investigation into the alleged fraud.

A three-member judicial commission was established to investigate.
