ڈاکٹر عبدالقدیر خان جو عموماً اے کیو خان کے مختصر نام سے جانے جاتے ہیں دھات کاری کے انجینئر اور پاکستانی نیوکلیئر فزیثسٹ ہیں۔

انہوں نے پاکستان میں ایٹم بم پر تحقیق کے لیے یورینیم کی افزودگی کے پروگرام کا افتتاح کیا۔

ڈاکٹر خان نے اپنے کریئر کا آغاز لُووَن یونیورسٹی، نیدرلینڈ سے دھات کاری انجینئرنگ میں ڈاکٹریٹ کرنے کے بعد ایمسٹرڈیم میں فزکس ڈائنامک ریسرچ لیبارٹری سے کیا۔

جب وہ وہاں تھے تو انہوں نے اعلٰی طاقت کی دھاتوں، جو سینڑی فیوجز قائم کرنے میں استعمال ہوتی ہیں، کا مطالعہ کیا۔

ان کے کام اور لیبارٹری میں سینیئر ہونے کی بنا پر انہیں زوپ سینٹری فیوج کے نقشوں تک رسائی دی گئی تاکہ وہ کچھ ریاضیاتی مساواتیں حل کر کے آلات کے کچھ مسائل حل کر سکیں۔

یہ جاننے کے بعد کہ ان کا آبائی ملک پاکستان ایک ایٹم بم بنا رہا ہے، ڈاکٹر خان نے اپنا حصہ ڈالنے کا فیصلہ کیا۔

انہوں نے بضد ہو کر ایسا عہدہ حاصل کیا جو انہیں اس پروگرام میں لے آئے۔

پسِ منظر کے جائزے اور انٹرویوز کے بعد 1974 میں وہ پاکستان لوٹ آئے۔

پاکستان لوٹنے کے بعد انہوں نے حکومت کے افسران سے ایک خفیہ ملاقات کی جس میں انہوں نے پلوٹونیم کے بجائے یورینیم کے استعمال کی حمایت کی۔

اگرچہ پہلے پہل انہیں یہ بات مشکوک لگی، وہ ان کی سوچ کے قریب آ گئے اور اپنے ایٹم بم کے لیے دوسرے میدانوں میں ڈیزائن کے لیے ان کی گزارشات قبول کر لیں۔

آئندہ سال ڈاکٹر خان رسماً اس پروگرام کا حصہ بن گئے۔

ڈاکٹر خان کو ایٹم بم میں اپنے خیالات کے مطابق یورینیم کے استعمال کی اجازت دے دی لیکن پلوٹونیم پر مشتمل پروگرام کو ترجیح دی گئی جب کہ ان کا یورینیم افزودگی کا پروگرام بے وقعت بن کر رہ گیا کیوں کہ انہیں یورینیم حاصل کرنے میں مشکلات کا سامنا ہوا۔

1976 میں انہوں نے افسران کو اس بات پر قائل کر لیا کہ انہیں یورینیم پروگرام سنبھالنے کی اجازت دی جائے۔

بالآخر کافی تحقیق اور تجربات کے بعد پاکستان کے ایٹم بم کے منصوبے میں ان کی قیادت میں یورینیم کا استعمال بڑھ گیا۔

Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, commonly known by the diminutive A.Q. Khan, is a metallurgical engineer and nuclear physicist from Pakistan.

He inaugurated the uranium enrichment program for atomic bomb research in Pakistan.

Dr. Khan began his career in Amsterdam at the Physics Dynamics Research Laboratory after receiving his doctorate in metallurgical engineering from Leuven University in the Netherlands.

While there, he studied high-strength metals which are used to develop centrifuges.

Because of his work and seniority at the lab, he was granted access to the Zuppe centrifuge's blueprints so that he could solve some of the mathematical equations and fix some of the issues with the devices.

After becoming aware that his native country Pakistan was developing an atomic bomb, Dr. Khan decided that he wanted to contribute.

He adamantly sought a position that would bring him into the program.

After a background check and interviews, he returned to Pakistan in 1974.

Upon arriving back in Pakistan, he attended a covert meeting with government officials in which he advocated for the use of uranium over plutonium for atomic bombs.

Although at first they thought it sounded dubious, they did come around to his way of thinking and accepted his advice on other design areas for their atomic bomb.

The following year, Dr. Khan officially became part of the program.

Dr. Khan was allowed to work on his ideas to use uranium in atomic bombs, but the plutonium-focused program was prioritized while his uranium enrichment program deteriorated as he had difficulties getting uranium.

In 1976, he convinced officials to let him take over the uranium program.

Eventually after much research and many experiments, the use of uranium proliferated under his leadership in Pakistan's atomic bomb program.
