Jan Amos Komenský byl učitel a spisovatel. Narodil se v roce 1592.

Mluvil česky a byl posledním biskupem Jednoty bratrské.

Byl jedním z prvních zastánců všeobecného vzdělání a často je považován za otce moderního vzdělávání.

Byl první, kdo zavedl obrázkové učebnice napsané v rodném jazyce studentů místo latiny.

Také přišel s učením, které začíná základními předměty a na nich staví komplexnější koncepty.

Ačkoliv neexistuje přesný záznam, který by uvedl, kde se přesně narodil, jeho rodiště bylo na Moravě v jednom ze tří měst: Nivnici, Komni nebo Uherském Brodě.

Mluvil českým jazykem a byl nejmladším dítětem a jediným synem.

Poté, co jeho rodiče a dvě z jeho čtyř sester zemřeli v roce 1604, šel bydlet k tetě do Strážnice.

Kvůli své bídné situaci začal formální vzdělání až ve věku 16 let.

Poté, co ho ovlivnil William Bathe a někteří z jeho učitelů, napsal v roce 1631 první knihu Brána jazyků otevřená.

Tato kniha mu získala velké uznání, ale kvůli svému spojení s Jednotou bratrskou byl přinucen k exilu, protože nastala protireformace.

Komenský odešel do Polska a později do Švédska, kde pokračoval v učení a transformaci vzdělávání.

Po svém návratu do Polska podporoval během severní války švédskou protestantskou stranu. Protivníci zapálili jeho dům, rukopisy a tiskařský lis, který patřil škole.

Po tomto incidentu se odstěhoval do Amsterdamu, kde zemřel v roce 1670.

John Amos Comenius was a teacher and writer born in 1592.

He spoke Czech and was the Unity of the Brethren's last bishop.

He was one of universal education's earliest champions and is often considered to be modern education's father.

He was the first to introduce pictorial textbooks written in students' native tongues rather than Latin.

He also introduced teaching which starts with basic subjects and grows into more comprehensive concepts.

Although there is no accurate record stating exactly where he was born, his birthplace was in Moravia in one of three towns: Nivnice, Komna, or Uhersky Brod.

He spoke the Czech language and was his parents' youngest child and only son.

When his parents and two of his four sisters died in 1604, he went to reside in Straznice with his aunt.

Because of his impoverished situation, he didn't begin his formal education until the age of 16.

After being influenced by William Bathe and some of his teachers, he wrote his first book The Gate of Languages Unlocked in 1631.

That book earned him wide acclaim, but because of his association with the Unity of the Brethren, he was forced into exile because of the Counter Reformation.

Comenius went to Poland and then later Sweden where he continued teaching and transforming education.

After returning to Poland he supported the Protestant Swedish side of the Northern Wars, and his home, manuscripts, and the printing press belonging to the school were burned by the other side.

After that incident, he moved to Amsterdam, where he died in 1670.
