In this week’s episode, Rachael talks to Harriet who is an advanced nurse practitioner for the NHS. When Harriet saw the great level of care her grandmother got when she had an accident resulting in severe burns, she knew that she wanted to help others in the same way. Harriet has worked in a variety of settings and teams within the NHS and she is able to share how each team is different so that you can choose what would be right for you. She also touches on the really important skills to offer great care including how to have those really tough conversations with friends and family. Harriet clearly loves her role at the NHS and is truly humble in her role, saying that she felt awkward at the ‘Clap for Carers’ because to her, she was just doing her job. Harriet also lets us know on some of the bizarrest scenario’s she’s encountered with patients in A&E because if you don’t laugh about it, you’ll cry!
