Going to the Cannes Film Festival – Today’s Advanced French

Part of Theme Courses| Le Festival de Cannes

In this lesson, you’ll learn how to talk about movies in French.

France has to go to the Cannes movie Festival, in the South of France to interview a movie director. She is taking advantage of a long weekend. Elle fait le pont “She makes the bridge”. She uses a lot of colloquial expressions in French that you can use later.

    * I’m off to the Fnac. I want a new book, a novel maybe. What are you reading right now?* I just finished “Where are you?” by Lévy. It’s a bit shallow, in fact. It’s not a full novel. It could almost be a short story. I like though. What if you got “Cecilia”, on the ex-first French lady?* Isn’t it banned?* No, I don’t think it has been banned. In any case, it’s a bit too Peoplemagazinish. The publishers want to cater to the readers’ curiosity. Have you read “A life”, published at Stock?* Simone Veil’s auto-biography?* Yep, it’s in the window displays. It’s a real success.* Autobiographies are not really my thing.* Ah yes, you like rich plots and not-tooperfect characters; modern novels, right?* Yes. I’ll get a Beigbeder.* Well, yes of course. He’s really shaking up the literary world. You’ll be happy.

Pépin de Caisse – Advanced French – Learn French with Anne’s AUDIO.
Today, we’re going on the road. This Advanced Podcast Unit is called Pépin de Caisse. Un pépin is a seed, and une caisse is a crate, often a wooden crate. In Everyday French though, un pépin is also a glitch, a trouble, a pickle, and une caisse is a car, wheels: ma caisse, my wheels. So today, France is explaining why she couldn’t meet her friend: first, her car didn’t start, then she almost got into an accident, and finally, she got caught in a traffic jam.
