The main themes of his research are:
1. Evaluating and implementing new professional roles for physiotherapists, including advanced practice physiotherapy.
2. Assessing the effectiveness of orthopaedic and physiotherapy treatments, particularly for shoulder, hip, and knee disorders.
3. Developing prediction and diagnostic tools for the diagnosis of various musculoskeletal disorders and identification of patients potentially at risk for persistent pain and disability.
4. Developing systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and the creation of clinical practice guidelines. Dr. Desmeules has authored over a hundred articles in peer-reviewed international journals.
He has been recognized by the Quebec Provincial College (OPPQ) with the title of Fellow of the OPPQ and has received the FRQS Senior Researcher Award.
