With not but powdered firs about them and the glitter of Christmas bulbs to light them: two figures sit alone on a park bench, lips close and closing distance. “Achoo!” came a sneeze from a nearby snow-covered shrub followed by a hissed, “quiet!”. The man opens his eyes at this and groans just a little as he pulls his face away from the woman. “Senator Harris...” He says, “I may be a lowly mill worker, but I'm going to hypothesize that you didn't plan..” He gestures at everything: the Christmas lights, Christmas music, and the thermos-ed soup and hot chocolate for two, “..all this?”
“Me?” the Senator says ”But Cal I thought you..” She stops and then smiles as it dawns on her, “The girls, ‘shoulda known...”
Cal repeats her sentiments and shouts, “Girls! Maddy, Addy...come on out now.”
At his call the twins: Maddy and Addy rise sheepishly from behind the noisy shrub.
“Hi Daddy, hi Ms. Harris” Addy says, “Beautiful night for a Christmas Eve jog eh?“ adds Maddy.
“Senator, I am so sorry for all of this,” Says Cal, “ they’re good girls but ever since their mom-”
“Cal it's okay” the Senator cuts in, “It’s really sweet, and don’t call me Senator Harris, call me-”
“KAMALA” interrupts a males voice behind them. The quartet turn to see a short man in a black suit and ear muffs marching toward them, “We’ve been looking everywhere! You’re on in a few!“
Kamala steps toward the short man, “I’m not going Jack..”
“Whaddaya mean!” Says Jack “ Look I get it, ya hate Lindegard but that's politics sweetheart! Like it or not he’s my...I mean, *our* biggest donor so come on, we need you on tonight's news endorsing the buy out of the old mill!.”
Kamala stands resolute, “I’m not going Jack...I’m not going to help shutdown the old mill, I’m going to save it, I won’t let these people lose their jobs!”
Jack lets out a long sigh and says, “You know..Christmas really does bring out the worst in people...” And faster than the quartet can react Jack grabs Kamala’s wrist in one hand, and brandishes a stun gun in the other. “No sudden moves!” He says and pulls on Kamala's wrist trotting her forward. “Now we’re just gonna take a nice walk over to the-”
“Get your hands off her” shouts Maddy, “Yeah or we’ll make you” shouts Addy.
“Oh yeah?” Says Jack, “You and what army pipsqueak?”
Addy smiles at Jack and shouts, “Kids of the Christmas division, ready your arms”
At Addy’s command a great multitude of children pop out of hiding: behind bushes, under park benches, and in tree’s, each brandishing balls of snow.
“What the-!?” says Jack
“Fire!” says Maddy and suddenly Jack is lost under a deluge of pelting snowballs.
“Your dreams of being president are over!” screams Jack as the children chase him out of town.
“That’s okay..” says Kamala watching him go, “Think It’s time for a new dream..” She turns to Cal and kisses him deeply. “Eww, gross!” the twins say in unison, they giggle and then slap each other high fives. -END
