Midweek devotions are an additional devotional time to Sunday services.  Each week, for four weeks, this podcast will have a devotion based on two familiar Christmas hymns and their background stories, a reading from the prophet Malachi, the last prophet of the Old Testament, and a short devotional reading from the letters of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

During the season of Advent, Christians prepare to meet Christ in His Second Coming.  His first advent was as a child in a manger.  He came to fulfill God's promise of salvation to the first created people on earth thousands of years ago, which is the focus of and purpose of the whole Old Testament and God's faithfulness to the people of Israel since their deliverance from Egypt.  God's promise, as prophesied by the Old Testament prophets, was not merely for the people of Israel but for the whole world as God says, "all nations will be blessed and come to Me."  Through Christ's death and resurrection that promise of forgiveness and eternal life is fulfilled, yet, we await Christ's return - His Second Coming - when the world will end and He takes all believers to reign with Him for eternity.
