Dr. Michael Ellis of Impact Baptist Ministries and Charlie Caswell Jr., Executive Director of Legacy of Legends CDC discuss ACES- Adverse Childhood Experience. ACE offers potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood (0-17 years) such as experiencing violence, abuse, or neglect; witnessing violence in the home; and having a family member attempt or die by suicide. In light of the remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday, a weekend is planned “MLK Celebration Weekend” to address this trauma with an ACE Summit, health fair, and school supply giveaway. A Sea of Blue is also planned on this weekend so youth can interact with Memphis Police and Shelby County Sheriff members.
