<p>We will talk about adversity and how we need to look at it.  It can help grow us and forge us to be great people and great leaders.  No chance we avoid adversity in life especially in leadership.  So we have to decide now on what mindset we have to have to make it through adversity.  Are we going to have a victim mindset or are we going to face adversity with a winners mindset knowing we can and will make it through on the other side and grow from it?</p>

Adversity

My name is Jon Maples.  I am a Police Chief for a medium sized agency.  I love my job in leadership, but it wasn’t easy to get there.  I want to spread the word of my journey-of how I got there and the lessons I have learned in making a better me for my family and my organization.  I wish to provide life lessons to help fathers be better fathers, husbands be better husbands, and leaders be better leaders.  We as a society need to get by to our God given American values-class, honor, respect, integrity, discipline, and hard work.  We need to focus on our health and wellness to be the best version of ourselves we can be.  Through my journey I have improved my quality of life for myself and the ones around me.

I want to help better the lives of others through my journey and what failures and successes I have had along the way.  I grew up in a divorced family, always was the underdog, but knew I had to make good choices to make a better future for myself and my family.

I met a young lady in middle school that has always made me a better person.  She is now my wife and provided me with two fun and energeticl sons.

I began my career as a young person and knew it was my calling.  I worked hard and am career oriented.  I worked my way through the ranks even through some failures and persevered to where I am today.  I will talk a lot about this throughout these podcasts.  I was appointed to my dream job as Police Chief of my hometown.  While holding my dream job and being the boss, I got lost in my career and lost focus of my family and my health.  

One day I realized how terrible of a person I was and the error of some of my ways.  I decided to change my mindset in life.  I heard a saying that changed my game… “You are what you do, not what you’ll say you’ll do!  Get to work!”  I am a leader of a police organization and was only “leading” people at work.  I had the tools, but was only using them while at work.   I needed to refocus on my life, my family, and my health.  For this to happen I had to refocus on positive change and fall in love with an sustainable journey.  I still work daily to build the right habits to be their best husband, father, and leader I can be.
