Sound United Presents

Adversity Service Legacy Impact

Listen Later

For our first episode in season five, we present Mr. Fred Harris, a lifelong Warren, Ohio resident, veteran public official, community leader, and historian.

Fred shares his journey from growing up Black in Warren during the 1950s and 60s, where he faced segregation and unspoken rules, to serving in the military during a defining period in American civil rights history.

He reflects on how travel shaped his understanding of racism and helped set his path toward public service. He also discusses lessons from his father, his work in city government, and his commitment to documenting Black history.

This conversation blends candor, humor, and a clear message about the value of knowing our past.
