AFC Wimbledon 2-0 Gillingham: Is there any way back from here?

Listen Later

Tuesday night’s away game against fellow playoff chasers AFC Wimbledon felt like the biggest game of our season so far. And, with the stage set for the team to make a statement, they failed to deliver.

The team set up negatively, conceded early and Conor Masterson got sent off before Stephen Clemence made the substitution that might define his season at Priestfield.

That change, withdrawing our only out-and-out striker, Oli Hawkins, for a defensive option, Robbie McKenzie, left us with nobody to hold the ball up at the top of the pitch. The result was predictable. A lack of forward options saw Tim Dieng dispossessed, and Wimbledon added a second. Game over.

The result was disappointing, but the manner of it was even more of a concern, as thoughts turned to whether the club needs another fresh start in the summer.

Joining Owen to debate those talking points post-Wimbledon were James, Matt and Luke, who gave their views after a morale-sapping defeat on the road.
