Are the words "deloading" or "rest day" like curse words in your vocabulary?  "I can't take a rest day because I will start to lose my gains!" Does this sound familiar to you? This episode demystifies the negative connotations behind these particular words and phrases. And Dr. Chance Martin, PT is going to take us through how periods of de-loading can actually be beneficial for improving overall performance.  We walk through the stimulus, recovery, adaptation (SRA) cycle and how the body actually responds during each of these periods of training. Some notable quotes: "Fitness is like an arc with sickness on one end and elite level fitness on the other end." "I see athletes who are wanting to be at that elite level, working out as hard as they can 4 to 5 times a day, and it just isn't sustainable." "Athletes are missing the R in the SRA cycle."  "Our body has a finite amount of resources. If you don't allow it to truly recover, you are never going to find those gains that you are trying to reach." "We are supposed to be doing stuff inside the gym, so we can enjoy our life outside the gym." "You are not going to get extremely weak and lose all your gains if you take a little time off from the gym."   Resources:  Haven RX (Facebook page) Wim Hof Method The Evolution of the Art of Breathing   Don't forget to check out the Athlete For Life Community: The Athlete For Life Community
