Pitman Kennedy was born in Liberia, West Africa. He escaped his homeland due to a civil war at age 17, and survived as a refugee in Sierra Leone from 1989 until 1992 at which time he migrated to the United States and joined the military. Pitman retired from the Air Force in 2016 as a Master Sergeant after a successful 21 year career.
Concurrent to his Air Force career, Mr. Kennedy developed and sharpened his skills as a basketball coach, skill development and strength trainer, and keynote and motivational speaker. Mr. Kennedy created Sweat Equity Basketball Skill Development LLC in 2014 as a platform for youth basketball skill development. In addition to basketball, Pitman leads speaking engagements across the country. Highlights include Keynote speaker on Resilience for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Wingman Day event; Panel member for South by Southwest Educational Fair; and guest speaker for John Lucas Camp Right Way (Chicago) among others.
Pitman has a BA in Computer Tech from Bowie, State University, MD; a Master’s of Management in Organizational Leadership from National Louis University, IL; and is currently completing his Doctor of Education from Grand Canyon University, AZ.
Pitman is passionate about leading and leaving a legacy, developing young people, changing lives, and helping individuals define and embrace their purpose. Pitman is a father, mentor, and an active and visible community leader.
