African Union Suspends Sudan, Demands Civilian Administration

FOCUS: Sudanese security forces fired tear gas and live ammunition to disperse protesters setting up barricades in Khartoum, over the weekend. At least one person was killed in the northern district of Bahari according to doctors aligned to the opposition. Campaigners called for ongoing civil disobedience from Sunday to make it as difficult as possible for the military to govern Sudan. The call comes days after a military crackdown left dozens dead. Meanwhile, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed met with military leaders in an attempt to mediate in the crisis and restart talks between the Transitional Military Council. The African Union has also suspended Sudan from all activities until a civilian-led government is formed
